🦋 Nature Study: Magnificent Moths

The Hidden Importance of Moths When most people think of moths, they picture little insects fluttering around a porch light at night. Some may even see them as pests. But moths are far more important than many of us realize. These small creatures play a big role in keeping our environment balanced, and they can even tell us important things about the health of our world. Moths as Pollinators Moth Like butterflies, moths help pollinate flowers. What makes moths special is that they are active at night. This means they take over when bees and butterflies are resting. Some plants even depend on moths for pollination because their flowers only open after dark. Without moths, many nighttime-blooming plants would struggle to survive. How to Make Binoculars or Bird Watchers

Talk about a fun kid craft! I recently made these with my toddlers and it brought me back to making these in school and at home when the need to 'make' cropped up. It's so simple to make and can be decorated anyway they please.

They can use paint, markers, crayons, pencil crayons, liquid chalk, gel ink pens, stamp markers, stickers, glitter, sparkle, jewels, google eyes and the list goes on. 😅

What you'll need:

1. Two toilet paper rolls

N.b: If the thought of using the used ones in the bathroom disgust you, you can make your own from card stock paper or purchase brand new rolls from a craft store or on Amazon.

2. Glue, tape or Velcro

Tip: For younger kids (3 and under) use velcro. It's so much easier and they can pull it apart and stick it back together as they please without destroying it.

3. Single hole punch or some means of punching a hole through the side where both tubes join in order to thread with wool or ribbon so they can wear it around their neck.

4. Wool or ribbon to make the binoculars/bird watchers/weather watchers wearable.

5. Things to Decorate! They can use paint, markers, crayons, pencil crayons, liquid chalk, gel ink pens, stamp markers, stickers, glitter, sparkle, jewels, google eyes and the list goes on. 😅

How To Make it:

Step 1: Glue, tape or velcro the two paper towels together.

Step 2: Using a single hole punch, punch a hole tbrough the side where the two tubes are joined.

Step 3: Thread with wool, ribbon etc and tie a knot at the top to secure.

Step 4. Time to decorate however you choose using paint, markers, crayons, pencil crayons, liquid chalk, gel ink pens, stamp markers, stickers, glitter, sparkle, jewels, google eyes and the list goes on. 😅

Happy Crafting and if you make binoculars feel free to tag it #TheTotTutor on Facebook or Instagram so I can see. ♥️
